Problem

Like many other warehouses, Alekon Cargo’ s biggest problem was too much goods. Initially, the goods were stored on the warehouse floor, but over the years both the customer base and the volume of goods grew. The need for warehouse trucks arose, and Alekon Cargo was awarded the contract by the Baltic Freight Forwarders.

Alekon Cargo has two large warehouses, each of nearly 10 thousand square metres. Due to the nature of the business, goods change quickly, so warehouses need to be rebuilt from time to time. Depending on the goods, the shelves will have to be made to different sizes and depths, or the shelves may have to be removed. At Alekon Cargo, it is the sheer volume and variety of goods that create the most exciting challenges.

Solution

The solutions created for Alekon Cargo are based on the rotation and volume of the goods – the layout and size of the shelves are adapted to the specific goods. The biggest challenge in creating the solution was installation. Due to the large volume of goods and work, the most difficult part was to find a mutually satisfactory installation method. When it comes to installation, it is always important to think about how both parties can do their jobs and stay on schedule. Installing storage shelves – that’s cooperation.

Both warehouses are now largely equipped with storage shelves. Collaboration has been an important keyword in creating solutions. This allows us to create solutions that meet the needs of warehousing, machinery and workers.

Hit

Today, nearly 80% of Alekon Cargo warehouses are equipped with storage racks. The company’s aim is to keep the goods indoors to ensure their preservation. Alekon Cargo was satisfied with the prompt installation. There was little outside interference and all issues were resolved independently by the Baltic Minister of Shipping.

Storage only on the floor is the most expensive storage option. It’s wiser to go for the heights and make storage efficient. The storage area used to be 3,000 cubic metres, but with the shelves it has increased to 6,000 cubic metres. Doubling the storage area is a sign of a good result. This is victory and success for Alekon Cargo!
